Nature Travelling

Earth Day – April 22nd 2012

The #FriFotos theme this week is Earth Day to coincide with the event of the same name; a day coordinated by the Earth Day Network in order to raise awareness and appreciation of our beautiful planet.

I have been lucky enough to travel to some of the world’s most beautiful regions, and I hope to continue exploring this amazing planet in the years to come. Here are some of my favourite photographs so far.

Lake, Vietnam.
Coconut Plantation. San Blas, Panama
Desert. Bolivia
Water Lilies. Singapore
Mountain road. Tenerife
Glacier. Argentina
Waterfall. Argentina
HaLong Bay, Vietnam
Lagoon. Bolivia
Mountains. Tenerife
Sand dunes. Vietnam

In the poem ‘Report to Wordsworth‘ Singaporean poet Boey Kim Cheng comments on the state of our beautiful Earth, and how desperately it needs protecting. Earth Day is a great excuse to start taking action!

You should be here, Nature has need of you.

She has been laid waste. Smothered by the smog,

the flowers are mute, and the birds are few

in a sky slowing like a dying clock.

All hopes of Proteus rising from the sea

have sunk; he is entombed in the waste

we dump. Triton’s notes struggle to be free,

his famous horns are choked, his eyes are dazed,

and Neptune lies helpless as beached as a whale,

while insatiate man moves in for the kill.

Poetry and piety  have begun to fail,

As Nature’s mighty heart is lying still.

O see the widening in the sky,

God is labouring to utter his last cry.

#FriFotos is a fun way to share your pictures with other travellers (and non-travellers) and is open to all, check it out on the #FriFotos Facebook page or by following the hashtag all day Friday on Twitter.

  1. Wow, so beautiful – I really hope I can make it to Halong Bay one day.

    1. Thank you. HaLong Bay is so beautiful, some people say it is too touristy now, which in some repects is true but it’s still an incredibly beautiful place to visit.
